This lecture will give a brief history of the splendid ikat tradition in central Asia and describe the resurgence of ikat production in the Ferghana Valley of Uzbekistan today.
Dr. Dusenbury is a research curator for the Spenser Museum of Art at the University of Kansas, and has written and lectured extensively on Japanese, Chinese and Silk Road Textiles. She was recently elected vice president of the Textile Society of America.
Dusenbury was a Cotsen Scholar for the Lloyd Cotsen Textile Documentation Project at the Textile Museum in Washington, D.C. Dusenbury also sessions at a symposium in Santa Fe: "Japanese Textiles", and "Symbolic Meaning in Textiles."
Our featured artist, ellen edith, continues to create new works on almost a weekly basis. One of her most recent story quilts depicts Larry herding cats out the door by sing the theme to "Rawhide." An art doll exhibit to be featured at our 2009 quilt show will be sponsored by the Good Golly Miss Dolly doll club of Capitola.

The exhibit will include cloth dolls, bears, stuffed animals, etc. General rules for quilt show entries applies. The exhibit is displayed in the locked glass case in the Art Building so the dolls are quite safe.
The Good Golly Miss Dollys meet on the last Monday of the month at 6:30 PM at Round Robin Fabrics on Portola Avenue, Santa Cruz. Visitors and new members are welcome.
