Certified Quilt Appraiser

Last year, for the first time, PVQA had a quilt appraiser available at the quilt show. This endeavor proved so successful that we've invited Violet back for 2009. Violet Vaughnes, certified quilt appraiser, will be at the quilt show to value your quilts. She will appraise antique quilts, crazy quilts, your EBay purchases, your latest creation, even quilts hanging in the show. She has done extensive study in antique textiles and contemporary quilts, and was certified as a quilt appraiser by the American Quilter’s Society after more than two years of courses.

"An appraisal is valuable not only for the quilt’s provenance, but for insurance valuation if ever necessary. Without a written evaluation by a certified appraiser quilts are often valued by insurance appraisers as a blanket. We hope this is never necessary but statistics show that every year many precious quilts are stolen, lost, or destroyed by some form of disaster." stated Ms. Vaughnes.

She will examine your quilt, hear its story, take photos and send you a written appraisal in approximately two weeks. Her fee for this service is $40. Ms. Vaughnes also offers verbal evaluations (not a bona fide appraisal) for $20.

Based on last year's results, appointments are a must. To make an appointment, contact the Ruth DeBord, Appraisal Coordinator at 831-663-2690
