Quilts of Illusions

Monday, October 11- 7pm

Karen Combs

Explore the world of optical illusions with Karen as she shows you some of the wonderful quilts that she has created and shares tricks and tips on how to make them. A native of Michigan, Karen Combs began quilting while still in high school. She has a degree in library science and has worked at many state, city and school libraries before finding her calling as a professional quilting instructor, writer and designer. Her quilts are known for taking a traditional pattern and giving it her own unique “twist.” Karen is intrigued with quilts of illusions and has been designing quilts with a 3-D look for many years.

Lisa Thorpe – Bird Box Workshop

Bird Box Fabric Collage

Two day workshop September 11 & 18 – 10am to 1pm each class

Lisa Thorpe

6-hour workshop. Explore fabric collage and design with birds as the focal point. I’ll share my digital design technique for creating the fabric bird images and each student will choose from my supply of printed birds to create a composition using scraps, small pieces of fabric, lace and even book pages fused on an 11×14” felt backing . Composition can be enhanced with machine, hand stitching or both. All levels welcome. There is a $25.00 kit fee for this class which includes one printed fabric bird, 11×14 inch pre-fused felt backing, some hand printed/painted fabric, book pages and ephemera for embellishment and oodles of Bird Box examples to inspire.

The Cost for the workshop is $35 for PVQA members, $55 for non-members.

Workshop kits will be shipped to Sara Roche and participants will pay by check or cash when they pick up their kits from Sara.
