APPLIQUÉ POTLUCK: Needle-turn Appliqué

jammin-with-scarlet-tonye-belinda-phillips

Have a great time recreating one of Tonye’s potted plants, baskets or window boxes. Using simple shapes and your favorite fabrics she will share with you the fun and creative energy you are sure to find when playing with hand appliqué. Whether a “newbie” or experienced, hand appliqué can be extremely relaxing and rewarding.

The focus of this class will be utilizing the needle-turn appliqué technique Tonye will share to create your own block using her patterns as inspiration, or mixing up some of the patterns in her book, Hand Appliquéd Quilts/Whimsical Designs and Simple Techniques, to create your very own design. Try sketching out some of your ideas before class for added inspiration. And bring along any other items which might spark your imagination. Remember, this is light hearted, whimsical, folk art!!!

Geometry Play
Octagon Chopkey Quilt, Wall Hanging or Tote Bag

rami-kim-geometry-landscapeOur November workshop and program feature renowned quilt artist, Rami Kim, author of several quilting books as well as quilt and wearable arts designer extraordinaire. Rami has a knack for continually designing exciting, challenging, and beautiful creations and we are thrilled to finally have her coming to PVQA.

This workshop is a sweet revenge to high school geometry classes (remember the days of hair-pulling?). You are going to have fun folding octagons, hexagons, and pentagons with beautiful fabrics. One more ‘Chopkey’ project from Rami’s childhood memories which will put a smile on your face. Perfect for stashed scraps and fat-quarters.

Watercolor Strip Quilt

Learn to make this lovely quilt using only three floral fabrics (or more if you so choose) because florals “have lots of color and design and blend easier”. Plus one border fabric. The secret of these attractive quilts is values of light, medium and dark. To be more productive, Mary suggests sewing the strata together prior to class. There are thousands of layout possibilities so plan to attend and have fun exercising your creativity!
