Hugs and Kisses in the Garden

Congratulations to Susan Fraser who won the 2020 PVQA Opportunity Quilt. Susan is a quilter from Maraposa, CA and belongs to the Mariposa Piecemakers. When quilt show chair, Lori Camner, called Susan Sunday night after the show to tell her the good news, Susan was delighted.

Betty made  “Hugs & Kisses in the Garden I” in 2015, starting with the pattern “Scrappy Duo”, by Emily Herrick, published in Fons & Porter’s Quilting Quickly Magazine, Summer, 2014.  She then decided it would make a good opportunity quilt and submitted it for consideration. Using Betty’s design, members of PVQA made the blocks which were then assembled by Betty. The “Helen’s Garden” layer cake by Tamara Kate for Michael Miller Fabrics was used for both quilts, with 4 or 5 other fabrics added for additional 10” squares for the 48 blocks. Betty added a border which she designed in Electric Quilt 6, using the left-over trimmed corner triangle squares to form trapezoids. Melanie Meadows of San Jose, CA, quilted the quilt using the design “Fantastic”.
