Make a Pick Up Sticks Quilt with Lynn Koolish

The idea behind the PickUP Sticks quilt is to improvise on the theme of intersecting straight lines inspired by the old game of PickUP Sticks. In my examples, I’ve kept the background limited to close color families and values or used one fabric with color variations, and then inserted pops of contrasting colors for the “PickUP Sticks”. In some of the student examples I’ll be sharing (see Flickr URL below), you’ll see more variations.

But there is more to this quilt than just piecing a background and inserting thin strips of color—there are design considerations that we will explore.
