PVQA Quilts for Veterans PVQA Quilts for Veterans Each year PVQA members make and deliver roughly 100 lap quilts to the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, to be distributed among the wounded soldiers who are recovering from various military conflicts. These men and women can be injured physically, mentally, emotionally, or all of the above. We are happy to report that the VA is once again accepting our quilts for their wounded soldiers. They need lap quilts, 36” x 48” (3 x 4 feet) due to many of the soldiers being wheelchair bound. If you choose to make a quilt for this cause, we ask that you honor these men and women with attractive, well-made, finished quilts (i.e., quilted and bound) appropriate for either gender. Give a quilt you can be proud of, and one the recipient can treasure and use for a long time. Get in Touch! Click Here to Contact PVQA Quilts for Veterans

- Allstar Quilters for Kids | PVQAQuiltAssn
Allstar Quilters for Kids Allstar Quilters for Kids was started in 2000 by a small group of quilters headed up by a dedicated group lead by Jan Martin. We started out at St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Scotts Valley, which had a former life as the Star Motel, hence our name. Over the years we outgrew that space and have moved to the community room of the Felton Fire Department. Trinity Church is our latest venue, where we meet to sew, socialize, organize and of course eat. We now number 25 quilters, with three very generous long arm quilters donating services to the cause. Our mission is to provide sturdy, colorful quilts to children in need within our county. To that end we have donated close to 2,000 quilts and counting. Some of the many agencies we donate to have included: CASA; Dominican Hospital NICU; Pregnancy Resource Center; Royal Family Camp for Kids; Jacob's Heart/Hearts and Hands Camp; Siena House; Jesus, Mary and Joseph Home and more. Historically, we have donated to New Horizons School, Beach Flats Community Center, Jacob’s Heart, Make a Wish. Their appreciation is what makes our work so rewarding. We have a whole binder of thank you notes and pictures. Allstar Quilters for Kids estimates that we use close to 500 yards of fabric a year, some of it donated by generous guild members. We use approximately 4 queen size rolls of batting per year. We raise funds by selling specially made quilts at the PVQA Quilt Show’s live auction. Every other year we have managed the silent auction in return for some of the proceeds, and we continually dip into our own stashes and pockets. We also donate a quilt each year to the guild as a thank you for all the support. Be sure to check out the display the combined PVQA outreach groups create each year at the Quilt Show. Delivering almost 2 dozen quilts to CASA We welcome any PVQA members to come sew, help or participate in any way you are able. We have several members who prefer to sew at home, some members who stitch bindings, some members who cannot attend but offer us fabric donations, block donations, even cash. All contributions are welcome and important. We meet the first and third Tuesday of every month at the Trinity Church, 420 Melrose Ave, Santa Cruz from 10 am to 3 pm. Get in Touch! - BargainGarden/PVQAQuiltAssn
Bargain Garden The PVQA Bargain Garden is part of a long tradition for quilt guilds across the United States. Members of the guild, and members of the community, donate quilting, sewing and craft fabric/supplies to the guild. Sometimes folks have cleaned out their sewing rooms. Sometimes heirs want to find a good home for quilting and sewing supplies that won’t be used by the family. PVQA sells these items to benefit the guild. Bargain Garden also provides an opportunity for quilters on a fixed income to find low-cost, quality fabric and supplies. Bargain Garden also provides some fabric to the other Community Outreach groups. The biggest Bargain Garden sale is at the annual Pajaro Valley Quilt Association Quilt Show in February of each year. Some items are sold at monthly meetings. Other items may be sold on eBay, or similar avenues. PVQA is a 501(c)3 charity! Your donation may be tax deductible. Sorry, donations of magazines cannot be accepted; they have become difficult to sell or recycle. Binders of magazine pages are also not accepted. Please be considerate of our volunteers. Do not donate items with open/loose rotary or razor blades, unfinished garments with pins still in, loose pins and needles, and other unprotected sharp objects. Please pack those items in a way that is safe for volunteers. Have a question? Want to make a donation? Support PVQA With Your Donation What Do We Do? The 300 members of the Pajaro Valley Quilt Association (“PVQA” for short) share a love for making attractive and useful fabric art. Our guild has been an active and progressive voice in the art of quiltmaking for more than four decades. We deliver quilts to many local charities, including CASA, Jacob’s Heart, Salvation Army, Pajaro Valley Shelter, the veteran’s hospital, and Hospice of Santa Cruz County. Twelve thousand cloth masks sewn during the COVID-19 pandemic went to health care and essential workers and vulnerable populations. Nearly 2,000 quilts were given to survivors of the CZU lightning fires. Recently more than 100 quilts were made for young women attending a STEM camp at UC Santa Cruz. Quilts Ready for STEM Camp Attendees Come to the Santa Cruz County Fair to see our members demonstrating quilting. Attend our quilt show each February where we showcase our work and educate people about the art. Monthly meetings often feature well-known speakers who discuss various techniques, and usually offer workshops to teach new skills. How Can You Help? Financial donations and donations of quilting-related goods can help us continue our mission of encouraging the art of quiltmaking while supporting our community. You can donate to our general operations or direct your donation to one of our community outreach groups. PVQA is a 501(c)3 charity organization. - Quilt It Forward Santa Cruz County | PVQAQuiltAssn
Quilt It Forward Santa Cruz County The purpose of QIFSCC is to engage quilters in creating and donating quilts and pillowcases to support Santa Cruz County youth in foster care, at their adoption, and as they age out of foster care at age 21. Pillowcases are provided to Camp Opportunity, a summer camp for foster youth. For over a decade hundreds of quilts and pillowcases have been made for this purpose. In December 2025, Quilt It Forward Santa Cruz County (QIFSCC) became an official PVQA Outreach Group. Meetings are scheduled quarterly at Michaels on 3555 Clares Street off of 41 st Ave., alternating on Wednesday evenings 6 pm and Saturday mornings 11 am to build community. Quilters pick up and share quilt and pillowcase supplies, turn in completed ones and learn more about foster care. Creating is done on the quilter’s own time, pace and style. You make what you want and do not have to complete the whole quilt. We can provide support, backing, batting, labels, and long arm services. Foster youth have little to call their own. Imagine the joy of picking out your own quilt or pillowcase and the warmth, happiness and security that brings to a child. Because the youth demographics constantly change, please avoid baby themes, sports teams, holiday fabrics. Recommended Sizes: Youth 50 x 60 min., Teen 60 x 75 min., Aging Out of Foster Care 21 year old 75 x 90 min. Please join us in sharing your talents and compassion for our children and youth. We are open to anyone with our shared passion.

COVID-19 Pandemic Response Quilters Took Action! COVID-19 Masks COVID-19 Isolation Gowns (The mask and gown projects have ended) PVQA Mask Project PVQA partnered with the South Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild (SBAMQG) to serve our community during the COVID-19 pandemic by making cloth masks for donation to health care workers, essential workers, and vulnerable populations in Santa Cruz County. Since launching the mask project on March 29th, 2020, PVQA has donated over 12,000 masks to organizations in Santa Cruz County, including: Santa Cruz County Medical Society Salud Para La Gente Hospice of Santa Cruz County Housing Matters Senior Network Services Volunteer Center Sutter Maternity and Surgical Center Parents Center In-Home Supportive Services Community Action Board Santa Cruz Allergy/ Sutter Health Planned Parenthood Mar Monte Santa Cruz Veterinary General Practice Encompass Community Services California Department of Rehabilitation Santa Cruz Mutual Aid Family Services Agency of the Central Coast Native Indian Youth Leadership Project Pajaro Valley Prevention & Student Assistance Immigration Task Force of Monterey County Family and Children’s Services, Santa Cruz County 1,372 masks getting ready for packaging. We wish to thank Modern Handmade in Scotts Valley for the generous donation of fabric, as well as the many volunteers who have contributed their time, skills and materials to support this project. Our donated masks were sewn using cotton fabric, and were washable and reusable. We did not provide medical grade masks. We did not sell masks. Anchor 2 Anchor 10 Isolation Gown Project PVQA was asked by the Santa Cruz County Health Department and the County of Santa Cruz Office of Emergency Management to sew Isolation Gowns for them. Phase 1 consisted of making 150 gowns for the Santa Cruz County Health Department. Phase 2 consisted of making 260 gowns for the County of Santa Cruz Office of Emergency Management. Phase 1 The Santa Cruz County Health Department asked PVQA to sew 150 gowns. Each gown uses about 4 yards of fabric. They are not form fitting garments! The County ordered and paid for the fabric which came to 600 yards of poly/cotton blend. They also found a way to cut the fabric for us using a laser cutter normally used for sign making. PVQA members, Helen Klee and Lori Camner, agreed to organize this new request. More than 35 people signed up to sew the gowns. They delivered 153 gowns to the County Health Department in June, 2020. Officials from the County Health Department were thrilled. The gowns were distributed to various medical-related organizations. The photo at right is one of the grateful gown recipients who worked at Cabrillo in the dental hygiene lab. She gave the photo to a PVQA member, saying that she was so very grateful to have this gown. Click the link below to read the article from The Pajaronian: The Pajaronian – August 3rd Delivery of 260 Isolation Gowns on August 3rd Phase 2 Pajaro Valley Quilt Association made the local news on Monday, August 3rd, 2020, after delivering 260 isolation gowns to the County of Santa Cruz Office of Emergency Management. The story was carried by both the Santa Cruz Sentinel and The Pajaronian . In addition we were on the 5:00 News on KION TV! The project was started in July when 1440 Multiversity Conference Center in Scotts Valley donated hundreds of used linens to the County. David Harnish, from the County asked Helen Klee and Lori Camner if it was possible to sew gowns from this fabric. Ross Newport from Community Printers refurbished equipment in his shop and was able to cut the pattern into the five pieces necessary for each gown. Thirty-four members of our guild and ten people from the community volunteered to sew the pieces together. Helen and Lori made kits using the cut gown pieces, Velcro, ties, and elastic. We asked each person to sew 5 gowns and many people sewed more. Hats off to Pat Goulet who assembled over 20 gowns in this project alone. It was a true community spirited undertaking. The gowns will be distributed to many clinics and medical services agencies. We are proud of the involvement that this guild has been able to represent and accomplish. All part of our Mission Statement, and willingness to help out when asked. Bravo to all involved. Helen Klee and Lori Camner want to thank all that have been participants in our Isolation Gown project.
