PM Kumihimo with Gayne Barlow-Kemper May 16 Techniques Day

Kumihimo, a traditional Japanese craft, uses fiber to create intricate looking braids. These braids can be used in a variety of ways to embellish quilts and garments. It is fun, quick, easy and there is no limit on what you can do with your braids.

About the event

This class, taught by Gayne Barlow-Kemper, is for a PM class and part of the May 16 Techniques Day. Participants should choose one AM and one PM class.

Join us to learn the traditional Japanese braiding craft of Kumihimo which translates into English as “gathering of threads”.  This 2.5 hour workshop will concentrate on learning the simplest 8 warp round braid which is the most versatile.  By using various different colors and sizes of  thread, such as Perle cotton sizes 3, 5 or8, rat tail or other threads of your choice, you will learn how the size and color changes the look of the braid.    There is no limit to what you can do with this braid as embellishment for quits or garments.

There is a $10 Kit fee payable directly to the teacher. For more information see the Supply List.
